Rites of Passage | LivingReal

Consciously or subconsciously every man carries deep within himself these burning questions:

  • Who am I?
  • What am supposed to do with my life?
  • Who am I called to serve?
  • Do I have what it takes?

If we go back two or three generations most men did not have to grapple with these questions as life as much and roles were generally clearly set. Social norms dictated who a man was and what he did. In our modern world this is no longer the case. In America only 17% of boys have an active relationship with their father. Most men no longer have a good close role model to imitate and end up as young adults not knowing who they are, what they believe, or who they serve.

What is Rites of Passage?

The LivingReal Rites of Passage (ROP) program is aimed at helping men answer these fundamental questions. This interactive program is run by a group of men who themselves have been through the ROP program and are fully committed to living their authentic life. This is not a journey to perfection but to wholeness!

At some stage every man has to stand up and be counted. There comes a time for every man where he states:

  • This is me!
  • This is what I believe.
  • This is who I serve.
  • YES, I have what it takes!

Who is this for?

The ROP program is not for the fainthearted. It is unashamedly masculine and its designed to be hard! You cannot know that you have what it takes sitting on the couch and watching Netflix. This program is for those who are ready to be called out. Who are ready to stand up! It is for those who want to take their authentic journey and be who they were born to be, even if they are unsure of who or what that looks like (especially if they are unsure).

When and where?

LivingReal will run a minimum of 2 ROP programs per year. Numbers are restricted as each group of 10 participants will have at least one designated elder/leader to guide and support them through the process. The preparation stage and meetings of the group will be held at LivingReal premises, whilst the 4 day initiation will vary but is generally within a 4 hour drive from Brisbane. The group always travels together.

What is involved?

The Rites of Passage program is split in two distinct parts.

  1. Preparation stage.
  2. Four day initiation.

The preparation stage is a 30 day lead-up to the four day ROP initiation program. The 30 day preparation starts with a meet and greet where all participants will meet each other and the leaders and elders involved. At this meeting each person will receive a Rites of Passage manual that outlines the process in detail. The manual lays out 30 days of teaching and journaling that is necessary to prepare every individual for the four day initiation program.

A further group meeting will take place towards the end of the 30 days to finalise plans for the long weekend away. All participants will also be part of a closed social media group to facilitate support and cohesion amongst participants.

The four day initiation program starts early on a Thursday morning and finishes late on Sunday afternoon. Participants are encouraged to take the Monday off as well, if at all possible. During this time each participant will spend time alone in the forest and will be required to fend for themselves. Details will be made clear during the 30 day preparation. The program ends with several rituals and declarations.

Again, these will be clearly laid out in the preparation stage.

The Rites of Passage for me was a deep inner journey that helped me to recognise what I need to do on a daily basis to live with self-acceptance, and with purpose but without striving to be what I was created to be.

Rites of Passage is a platform that allows you to really connect with yourself and provides the tools to find what you think you’re missing. For me it was another key piece of the jigsaw puzzle of life. Instead, this time I placed this piece in. For the first time I can actually see what I have been a part of building for all those years. It’s been inspiring to be part of the journey. I so look forward to connecting deeper in the future with the program!

The LivingReal Rites of Passage was for me, at 48yo, the initiation I never had. This is not just another chapter of knowledge, this is a life changing experience, an integrated passage to take forward into everyday life. I encourage any boy or man to do this, 15 or 75, and become an initiated man. Thankyou Andrew for taking me through my Rite of Passage. Much Love.

Never have I experienced anything like this. I could not recommend highly enough the Rites of Passage journey, from the 30-day preparation, to the location, to the experience of stripping every comfort away and being alone in the forest with yourself. I can honestly say it changed my life. Thank you, Andrew for putting this together. I found courage in me that I had no idea was there.
